Dva levné doplňky – koenzym Q10 a selen – byly ve studii spojeny s poklesem úmrtnosti na kardiovaskulární onemocnění ze 12,6 % na 5,9 % u starších Švédů. Biomarkery srdeční zátěže i výsledky echokardiogramů se také zlepšily. Přestože se do studie zapojilo jen 443 účastníků a probíhala v zemi s nízkým obsahem selenu, nedokáže určit, který z těchto dvou živin přinesl efekt.
