در یک مطالعه جدید در مجله GeroScience که ۵۲۹ فرد مسن ژاپنی را بررسی کرد، افراد مبتلا به ضعف فیزیکی مقدار کمی کمتر NAD+ در خون خود داشتند و هر افزایش ۱ میکرومول در لیتر، خطر بروز ضعف را حدود ۱۳٪ کاهش می‌دهد. اما این پژوهش مقطعی است، فقط ۳۲ شرکت‌کننده‌ی ضعیف را شامل می‌شود و تفاوت میانگین‌ها تنها ۲۴ در مقابل ۲۵ میکرومول بر لیتر است. پس از تنظیم برای هماتوکریت، ارتباط ضعیف‌تر شد، به این معنی که ترکیب سلول‌های خونی ممکن است بخشی از این رابطه را توضیح دهد. در ادامه توضیح می‌دهیم که نتایج دقیقاً چه می‌گویند، چرا نمی‌توانند نشان دهند که NMN یا NR ضعف فیزیکی را پیش‌گیری می‌کنند، و چه نکاتی را باید در نظر بگیرید اگر به مصرف پیش‌سازهای NAD فکر می‌کنید.
