قُدِّم ببتيد مكوّن من أربعة أحماض أمينية أظهر أنه يُعيد تشغيل التيلوميراز، الإنزيم الذي تُكتمه معظم خلايا البالغين، كما أطال التيلوميرات في خلايا بشرية. هذه النتيجة أطلقت الضجة حول إبيثالون كعقار يُطيل العمر. لكن التجربة أُجريت على ألياف جنينية في إناء زجاجي، وليس على أشخاص حقيقيين، والحديث في الورقة عن إطالة العمر ليس سوى فرضية. إليكم ما أظهرته الدراسة عام 2003 فعلًا، وما أغفلتُه، وكيفية قراءتها قبل شراء أي شيء.
